Voila. Our Manifesto.
Because we like to do things differently.

Engineering the future of planetary science through radical collaboration and relentless iteration.

The Yale Exploration Rover Manifesto.

The principles that drive our everyday work. And no, we don't just write about it.

We reject the notion that space exploration belongs only to governments and billionaires.

We believe in:

  • OPEN EXPLORATION

The tools for discovering extraterrestrial life should be built by passionate students, not just aerospace conglomerates.

  • HARDWARE DEMOCRACY

Advanced robotics must be accessible, modular, and designed through interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • SCIENTIFIC CURIOSITY

The search for life begins here - in our labs, our code, and our relentless testing.

  • AUTONOMOUS FUTURES

True discovery requires machines that think, adapt, and explore beyond our line of sight.

OUR 2026 MANDATE

  1. Build the most capable life-detection rover ever designed by undergraduates
  2. Prove open-source frameworks can outperform proprietary systems
  3. Set the standard for student-led planetary science
  4. Win at URC - then open-source every innovation

This isn't a class project.
This is prototype zero for how humanity explores worlds beyond our own.

Sincerely,The Yale Exploration Rover TeamA proud member of the Yale Undergraduate Aerospace Association.
